Across the construction and building maintenance sectors, the shortage of skilled professionals in passive fire protection remains a growing challenge.

As regulations tighten and the demand for safer, compliant buildings continues to rise, it’s never been more important to ensure that teams on the ground have the right knowledge and practical skills to uphold fire integrity standards.

At Isoler, we’re committed to bridging that skills gap – equipping people with the confidence and technical understanding they need to make a difference in fire safety.

That’s why we were delighted to welcome the Prosper team to our Fire Integrity Training Facility to take part in our Fundamentals of Fire Safety Systems course. This bespoke programme was designed to give participants – many of whom typically work behind the scenes in procurement – valuable insight into how the products and systems they specify translate into real-world applications on site.

Led by our Head of Training, Jamie Gilroy, the day began with a classroom-based learning session, introducing the key principles behind fire integrity systems – from firestopping and fire doors to fire dampers and compliance best practices.

Participants then moved into our hands-on training workshop, where they had the opportunity to install passive fire protection materials to various penetrations through compartment walls, following approved manufacturers’ details, and using a range of products such as fire batt, intumescent mastic, and ablative coating.

This practical experience brought the theory to life – allowing the Prosper team to see first-hand how effective passive fire protection works and the impact it has on maintaining building safety and integrity. It also provided valuable context for how items described on a pricing document translate into physical installation requirements on site.

The session was not just about knowledge; it was about empowerment. By helping professionals outside the fire safety sector gain a deeper understanding of passive fire protection, we’re creating a stronger, safer, and more skilled workforce for the future.

A huge thank you to Prosper for their engagement and enthusiasm throughout the course – it’s inspiring to see organisations investing in developing their people and strengthening industry standards.
